The byelection will be the first election to use digital tabulators to count paper ballots and laptops to look up voters, instead of the traditional paper binders. Elections B.C. said the new tools should make it easier to cast a vote and quicker to report election night results.The B.C. NDP have tapped Jeanette Ashe, chair of the political science department at Douglas College, to represent their party in the race. Ashe is married to Vancouver Mayor Kennedy Stewart.

Elections B.C. will send information about where to vote to every registered voter in the Vancouver-Quilchena before advance voting starts.
