For the first time since the start of a Canadian tour highlighted by apologies for the church's role in Indigenous residential schools, Pope Francis on Thursday acknowledged the sexual abuse inflicted on “minors and vulnerable people.”

Speaking at a prayer service at Quebec City's Notre-Dame de Quebec Basilica-Cathedral, Francis said the Catholic Church in Canada is on a new path after being devastated by “the evil perpetrated by some of its sons and daughters.”

Indigenous people have been expressing a mixture of hope and skepticism over the Pope's visit, with some saying on Thursday they want to hear about the actions that will follow the pontiff's historic apologies. The women said they hadn't travelled from Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., planning to protest but changed their minds after being offended by what they saw as a lack of Indigenous representation and care for survivors at Wednesday's papal events.

Jackie Gull-Barney, from the Cree First Nation of Waswanipi in northern Quebec, said before the service that she was hoping to find healing and peace from the Pope's visit. Hundreds gathered outside the basilica in Ste-Anne-de-Beaupre, Que., to listen to Pope Francis lead the second mass of his Canadian tour, which he has called a pilgrimage of penance.

On the same day Supreme Court accepts that a man can get off with sexual assault if he uses a condom (not that he would be trying to hide any DNA evidence!!) This follows if they are intoxicated they can get off with it! BBCWorld JustinTrudeau

This encouraging news for decency. Deviant child predators need to be pushed back underground where evil belongs.

What’s this gonna do?

Let’s respect and give him all the credits he deserves! How many former Pope’s came all the way to Canada to issue an apology on behalf of the Catholic Church! We all can see he’s being wheeled around trying to be strong just to do what he came here to do! Not good enough? GMAFB

Pope Francis tells faithful at outdoor mass to honour their elders | CBC NewsAt an open-air mass in Edmonton Tuesday for tens of thousands of congregants, Pope Francis highlighted the importance of parents and grandparents and challenged listeners to honour them by making choices to build a better future. Is that what our gov't gave 1/3 of a Billion $ to First Nations to take in? Most would probably prefer to take a pass on the Mass - not big fans of the Catholic church any more. guy wearing a funny hat(s) talks about imaginary sky-fairy that does not exist.
