Vehicle of interest found on Saturday afternoon

After a plea to the public RCMP are confident that they have found a vehicle that was involved in a hit-and-run that killed a cyclist on Comox Valley Parkway on Thursday.

Comox Valley RCMP responded to a call at 10:56 p.m. after a passerby discovered an injured cyclist lying on the Comox Valley Parkway, near Minto Road. The collision is believed to have occurred within the hour before the call.A red and white Specialized bicycle was discovered by the side of the road nearby. Investigators from the Integrated Collision Analyst Services and Integrated Forensic Identification Services collected evidence from the scene.

Police appealed to motorists who had been travelling in the area for dashcam video to further their investigation. They also asked people to report vehicles with very recent damage to their front end. Those efforts paid off, with the RCMP announcing they had found a vehicle of interest on Saturday afternoon.

“Investigators have located the suspect vehicle involved in the collision and are continuing to process the evidence collected so far,” said Cpl. Alex Bérubé, spokesperson for the RCMP in British Columbia. “While the investigation remains in its infancy, it is progressing well. Due to the sensitive nature of this investigation, no further details will be shared at this time.”parrais@timescolonist.
