The Liberal Party’s campaign director for the 2019 federal election recommended Prime Minister Justin Trudeau take no action in response to intelligence concerns surrounding Han Dong’s nomination in Don Valley North. Appearing before the public inquiry into foreign interference on Tuesday, Jeremy Broadhurst, a senior advisor to Trudeau, testified that he was alerted to potential irregularities in Dong’s nomination process by two Liberal party representatives in the run-up to the 2019 election.
Broadhurst said the significance of the intelligence warranted briefing Trudeau, but that he ultimately decided not to recommend any reactive measures considering the “extremely high bar for overturning a democratic process.”
