Could the world’s most famous shipwreck still hold remains of passengers and crew who died a century ago?

Lawyers for the U.S. government have raised that question in an ongoing court battle to block the planned expedition. They cite archaeologists who say remains could still be there. And they say the company fails to consider the prospect in its dive plan.“Fifteen hundred people died in that wreck,” said Paul Johnston, curator of maritime history at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History.

The dispute stems from a larger debate over how the Titanic’s victims should be honoured, and whether an expedition should be allowed to enter its hull.Story continues below advertisement People on both sides of the human-remains debate claim the issue is being played down – or up – to support an argument.

“This company has always treated the wreck as both an archeological site and a grave site with reverence and respect,” Hunchak said. “And that doesn’t change whether in fact human remains could possibly exist.”Sea creatures would’ve eaten away flesh because protein is scarce in the deep ocean, and bones dissolve at great ocean depths because of seawater’s chemistry, Gallo said. The Titanic sits about 2.4 miles below the surface.

Johnston wrote to the court that remains could be “within the confines of the wreck or outside in the debris field” in areas lacking oxygen. Conlin told AP “it would be scientifically astounding if there were not human remains still onboard that ship.”He said wrecks older than the Titanic have contained remnants of crew or passengers.

Maybe, at that depth bodies may be preserved like that of a vacuum. Problem is, if it was someone like myself, one would just see a smiling corpse peacefully clutching a bottle of whisky.

Just leave it alone, would yous want someone to open yr grave and piss on it?

BEFORE the pandemic HALF of all Canadians were within 200 dollars of INSOLVENCY every MONTH..that was with Trudeau borrowing 20-30 BILLION a year in GOOD economic times...don’t let Trudeau & HIS media distract you with “racism” “Russians” and other manufactured issues...!!!!!

Is it any worse than digging up Pharaoh's tombs?

It's been raped of many items when it's hallowed ground

not the titanic... the olympic... just another lie... another hoax... insurance scam to sink/scuttle a twice wreck'd ship with a bent keel... 1500 died... by 'accident'... and those who caused it... got away with the world e'er after with another lie (:~:)

So what's the cutoff for human remains? Certainly they are found in older archeological sites and excavated. 100 years...too soon. 200 years...?

There are NO human remains left in, at, or around the titanic. Even if there were, who cares? If we made every place a human died a protected and 'sacred' location, you would never be able to move anywhere on this planet without stepping on someone's 'grave.'

Emergency meeting spurs calls to address systemic racism in health care and effects on Indigenous patientsIn discussions that spanned hours, federal, provincial and territorial officials and others looked at the devastating effects on individuals and communities and how to address the problem Fed up with your culture... obey the law.. pay taxes. Get a job.. It isn't systemic racism if the emergency doctor asks if you've been drinking. The doc has to get to the issue quickly and sort out the possibilities. And it usually is a good assumption that many indigenous people have a drinking problem and show up in emerg drunk. One person died....still haven't seen the purported video.....but now we are all systemic racists.
