A plan to ban single-use plastics in Canada has First Nations with long-term drinking water advisories that rely on bottled water concerned about how they will be affected. | CBCIndigenous

Single-use plastics, as defined by the United Nations Environment Programme, are disposable plastics from packaging that are often intended to only be used once. These include grocery bags, food packaging, straws, cutlery and bottles.

My family would have less plastic waste if we didn't rely on bottled water for fresh drinking water on reserve https://t.co/eZCGKYak8FShe lives in Six Nations of the Grand River in southern Ontario, where only part of the community is connected to a water line fed by a state-of-the-art UV water treatment plant.

"How would they get water out to us? They would definitely have to build that water plant right away."Even communities with water treatment plants sometimes rely on bottled water in emergencies — like when the water treatment plant in Carry the Kettle Nakoda First Nation in Saskatchewan burned down this winter. It's estimated that it will be another six months before the water treatment plant is operational again.

Indigenous How about First Nations invest in First Nations instead of trying to invest in a pipeline.

Indigenous The government has to come up with a solution or make a exception to the rule.

Indigenous GLASS bottles, genius.

Indigenous Well maybe the government should get there asses in gear and fix the water problem for the natives and then they wouldn’t have to rely on bottled water.

Indigenous How about digging a well?

Indigenous You can use large containers for water. Then use glasses to drink it. Not rocket science, or spend some of the funding the reserve gets a get a permanent solution

Indigenous Easy. Don't ban bottled water.

Indigenous Obviously if this is the only way to provide safe drinking water I’m sure the law would accommodate but yes it’s sad that communities are unable to have clean drinking water but it’s hard when they’re so isolated.

Indigenous How about CLEAN drinking water for ALL PEople living in Canada....everywhere....? Besides, Plastic bottles will not disappear over night....there is a long way until they will be replaced with other kind of containers. NO need to panik, even if the media loves fake scandals

Indigenous There are exceptions to every rule. If we could just limit it here it would be a major step forward. Then again Canada could be a good country and fix this issue. An issue that should not exist.

Indigenous Maybe provide them with clean drinking water. Just saying

Indigenous The village idiot at it again !!!

First-time homebuyers can soon get help with their mortgage costsThe federal Liberals say a new program to help new buyers pay for their first home will kick in on Labour Day. Until the govt decides to take their house... Never take money from gangsters. Huge waste of tax dollars. All they had to do was double the 1st time home buyers RRSP amount from 25 to 50K and allow a one time 25K low interest RRSP loan. Results in saved tax dollars, help with buying homes as well as a wealthier retirement. We have dumb politicians.
