Parks Canada officials are advising visitors to Banff National Park to plan ahead as tourists descend on the park in high numbers for summer

With the return of international travel after two years and the removal of pandemic-related restrictions, Parks Canada expects Banff National Park and the town site to be crowded with visitors. The potential for congestion and traffic delays has Daniella Rubeling, visitors experience manager with Parks Canada, reminding people to plan ahead and use the transit system.

Visitors can secure reservations for campgrounds, transit, shuttles, restaurants and key attractions, where available, to secure their itineraries but they should also have a backup plan in case they can’t get to their desired destination, Rubeling said.Article content “We encourage visitors to come and try some of the new experiences that don’t require a car,” said DaDalt. “Leave the driving to someone else and learn more about this place through the eyes of local guides and Indigenous interpreters with Wow Banff, Hop On Banff and Open Top Touring, to name a few.”

“Parking, then walking, cycling or taking transit is the right thing to do in a national park, to reduce emissions that cause climate change, and because it is a much more enjoyable experience.”or Parks Canada shuttles are a more sustainable and hassle-free way to explore Banff and Lake Louise, and transit is a must to reach hotspot areas like Sulphur Mountain, Banff Upper Hot Springs, Lake Minnewanka, Johnston Canyon, Lake Louise and Moraine Lake.

With so many visitors to the park, there is an impact to the wildlife and environment, which is why Rubeling said people should try their best to leave no trace.Garbage became a serious problem during the pandemic as people opted not to dispose of their garbage properly and littered in the park. Garbage needs to be put in bear-proof bins and cannot be left in firepits, on the ground or left beside a garbage bin, Rubeling said.
