Scott Ross, the founder of Pictou County Forest School, announced on March 25 over Facebook that the school had a big-hairy-audacious-goal to build an insulated structure that would be used by students and would also double as space for career development for teachers interested in either starting their own forest schools, or learning about the nuances of the curriculum.
The second reason is that we want to be a professional development center where people can come and learn from us and stay there for free. There'll be a place for people who want to come and experience our school and learn about environmental education to come and stay and learn. During my teaching degree, I went to a couple of places in Colorado.
When I first talked to architects, he said that's a million-dollar building you're talking about. I was like, no, that's not what I want at all. I want something that's just what we need, just enough, and because I think so often we do way more than we need, and whether that's just completely against our philosophy as environmentalists, we want to take what we need but not more.
