Pickering residents can have their say as to whether they want local cannabis retail stores via TheGrowthOp

Residents of Pickering, Ontario in the Greater Toronto Area will now have the opportunity to make themselves heard on the subjects of cannabis and alcohol.

— City of Pickering May 27, 2019, citing pending community outreach and other considerations, when federal cannabis legalization came into force in October 2018. The survey is now posted on the official website, and the city is hoping for a minimum of 500 to 1,000 complete surveys to ensure relevance accuracy. Additionally, the city will also be sending a street team to various community events in order to reach a wider range of inhabitants.

Upcoming events include Pickering Ribfest in Esplanade Park on Friday, May 31 from 1:30-4:30 p.m., and an afternoon at Pickering Town Centre, on Friday, June 21 from 1:30-4:30 p.m.The city provides a list of factors to consider before completing the survey, stressing that “The City will not be able to impose regulations on the location of cannabis retail stores, severely limiting its role in whether a proposed location is suitable for the community.
