PG native Scott Cousins named BCHL's First Star of the Week

You’ve got to be exceptional on the ice just to become a junior hockey player.

After putting together his best weekend of the season for the Prince George Spruce Kings, Cousins has drawn the attention of the B.C. Hockey League and has been named the league’s First Star of the Week. In two games at Kopar Memorial arena against the Merritt Centennials, Cousins scored three goals and collected two assists for a five-point weekend.

The 21-year-old winger, a native of Prince George, scored his seventh and eighth goals of the season n a 6-3 loss to the Cents on Friday. In the rematch Saturday, after setting up the first two Prince George goals, he scored the only goal of third period to force overtime. The Kings went on to beat Merritt 4-3.

Cousins, who started his junior career in the WHL with the Kelowna Rockets, now has 19 points in 46 games this season with the Spruce Kings.The Vipers announced Saturday that head coach and general manager Jason McKee, in a mutual agreement, has left the team. Associated coaches Lukas Lomicky and Colton Sparrow will handle the coaching duties. Lomicky is a former Spriuce Kings associate coach.
