Permanent residents now eligible to join the Canadian Armed Forces

Story continues below advertisement

The Department of National Defence says joining the military can help permanent residents gain citizenship, in part because their applications are given priority by immigration officials. In October, chief of the defence staff Gen. Wayne Eyre ordered an immediate halt to all non-essential activities in favour of boosting military recruitment and retention.

The Armed Forces have also been pushing for greater diversity in its ranks, with targeted recruiting of under-represented groups and efforts to create a more inclusive workplace by doing things like easing dress rules.

AnitaAnandMP That’s not exactly the stock pic that one would use for a modern Canadian soldier, smoking is instant discrimination eh AnitaAnandMP

AnitaAnandMP Sadly military clearly desperate for personnel, should be restricted to citizens to eliminate risk. However in a country in which everyone has a vigorously defended right to inactivity there’s no motivation to try anything. Military is a great place at least to start one’s career

LWaler But they can't vote in Federal elections like WTF are the recruiting Afghanistan and Iranian citizens why then able ppl from these nations as terrorist

That is the death thrall of a once great society...

U.S. intel chief thinking 'optimistically' for Ukraine forcesThe head of U.S. intelligence says fighting in Russia's war in Ukraine is running at a 'reduced tempo' and suggests Ukrainian forces could have brighter prospects in coming months. How is Putin even in this any longer First we got rid of swift access, then sanctioned his niece and now “optimistically” thinking? Western left wing leadership has made the world a much safer place It's obvious that Ukraine is more professional and effective per $ spent or per armed forces member. Russia still has more of everything, but it will lose.
