The Penguins have signed forward Kasper Bjorkqvist to an entry-level contract.

signed forward Kasper Bjorkqvist to a two-year, entry-level contract on Wednesday.

Bjorkqvist, 21, was a second-round pick by the Penguins in the 2016 NHL Draft. He has spent the previous three seasons at Providence College and helped his team advance to this year’s NCAA Frozen Four. “Kasper was able to produce in big games throughout his college career, and he was fortunate to play in a lot of them,” said Penguins assistant general manager Bill Guerin in a press release. “We were very happy with the steady progression in Kasper’s production.”

Bjorkqvist finished his collegiate career with 36 goals and 62 points in 112 games. In the past, Bjorkqvist was an alternate captain for Team Finland at the 2017 World Junior Championship, and Finland’s captain at the 2015 Under-18 World Junior Championship.
