As businesses across the country slowly begin to open up there is a big question mark over whether Canadians will embrace their spending habits post-pandemic. I'm not so sure they will, writes CTV News' Chief Financial Commentator Pattie Lovett-Reid.

My observations suggest Canadians are hitting a re-set button and re-evaluating where they will be spending their money. While this may be good news for the household balance sheet it certainly isn't as promising for the country's financial books. People are worried. They are worried about their safety, their job and their financial risk tolerance is lower given all the uncertainty out there.only 19 per cent cited being likely to return to previous spending habits following COVID-19.

As well, many have come to the conclusion they simply need less stuff. That doesn't mean there isn't some pent up demand after months of retail hibernation but the difference is the purchase will likely be more focused on what we need verses what we may have wanted in the past.

Too bad Walmart didn't take a hit

Shucks ill have more money

Why would they. Especially in malls. They will be closed sooner than later. No one wants to go int them now. Especially you have to wear a mask. Online shopping crazy. And credit card companies loving every minute of it! Sad what society has become.

Hopefully, people will no longer be slaves to debt.

Doh! Thanks Tips! cdnpoli

50 percent of all Canadian retail stores will close.

I’m unlikely to head to stores and malls anytime soon, not because of the virus but because of restrictions. Even the restaurants are too big a hassle. I’m very sure I’m not the only one.

Spend everything you have. Follow me

Now they tell us

But the Liberals are above and beyond their insane spending patterns. No problems there I guess
