The Trudeau government’s Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance program has been widely criticized for leaving it up to landlords to request the aid. Lefebvre cites the example of the U.K.’s “Eat Out, Help Out” scheme, where restaurant patrons would receive a 50 per cent discount of up to £10 per diner for eat-in meals on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday through the month of August. The program seems to have worked well in part because it helped restaurants facing virus-linked capacity constraints boost sales during off-peak times, Lefebvre says.

We are becoming complacent and non-compliant. Government Covid 19 relief programs inadvertently encourage non-compliance. Tighten up the mask wearing, continue with the sanitizer and distancing and we can get back to usual without breaking the country. NoMasksNoWay

My husband I have stopped eating out ..Not due to fear of Covid... Having to wear a mask from the door to the table & then again to go to the bathroom...Insane! Seeing staff wearing masks does not feel welcoming and relaxing at all.. Thanks government for destroying businesses.

In The UK there is a government program where customers can eat for half price up to a $$ amount on certain nights and the program pays the restaurants the other half. Apparently it is really helping.

TrudNo gotta go

If the government shuts down again , there will be no restaurants left

China needs to pay for our economy that it has destroyed...chinavirus

I've talked to several Restaurant owners and managers and all they want is a chance to open, without restriction or having to take names and numbers. For those worried about getting infected, don't go... stay home. The rest of us are hungry and want to eat without restrictions.

No Trudeau should resign! People would go out & celebrate! Restaurants & bars would be booming once again!

It’s not just bars. It’s their suppliers as well who suffer. For every 1% increase in unemployment historically there has been a 1% increase in suicides (most often young adults). The harms of lockdown are great. Many in hospitality unemployed with increasing addiction rates.

Absolutely not .. I just started to be able to see my sister in hospital.. but.. definitely would contribute to a 50/50 draw .. sadly I never win.. but there is hope

A new government not interested in a shut down.

Yes

This will be the longest winter ever, thanks to COVIDIOTS

I’m in the Northern region so no I won’t be eating outside.

Skip the dishes

-25 Celsius degree? No!

Lololololol

Delivery, yes. Sitting outside in Canadian winter to eat, no.

I thought we were still allowed to eat inside restaurants in Ontario. We're just not allowed to hang out with friends inside. As long as you have money and are willing to spend it, you're good to go.

No

I won’t be sitting outside to eat but I’ll order take out as I have done since June from local businesses.

No

No, It’s just so easy to cook at home. No worry of catching the virus and oh so much cheaper.

Who says heaters won’t cut it. People in SK can handle a beer outside in January with a heater. If they can do it, everyone can.

Take out!! Or physically distance dining in restaurant! But I must say, I’ve saved some money not eating out as often. I feel bad all these businesses at risk of closing and the ones that closed due to pandemic.

Nope. I’ll get take out and respectfully request that my child’s classroom be allowed to set up in the restaurant since private businesses seem a whole lot safe right now than my kid’s classroom. At least the staff wear masks and there is 2m distancing and sanitizer

A smarter Government!

NO.

we will all be homeless and jobless soon. sure no problem

No, I will eat inside

Obviously that's not possible. People won't be waiting in lines outside either. These stupid rules end the day temps drop below 0

Patio heaters 😂

Unlikely.

I now buy more quality meats and food to cook at home. Less salt and healthy and buying organic grass fed still cheaper than ordering food.

I don't recall ever sitting outside a restaurant in winter eating

Stop msm from manufacturing fear and start condemning the liberals

Nope

Nope don’t like eating cold food 🙄

Hahaha....no.

Ive sat outside numerous times with good Parka

No way! Totally ridiculous. Its like -35° to -40° here in Calgary not happening.

For lying global news to defend the people. Evil Global hates we the people.

Not to mention take out fun on decks, in backyards and on driveways. Summer really broke the monotony.

Nope! I will do takeout but that’s it. Don’t need to be sucking the air of the mouth breathing anti maskers

We have testing, managing people coming into our Atlantic Bubble, no community spread, & line ups of people (masked or not) for months at grocery stores, shops and bars, dare I say Covid isn't present in our bubble. It needs a 'host' to survive. Open up inside restaurants inside.

endthedncscamdemic

It's important to support local businesses. However, I will not be dining in. Take out.

Orrrr we could just let restaurants and other businesses open as normal and then they don't have to worry about 'staying afloat' They can do this by having their government stop f*cking them over! jkenney

Probably not, but we will order in and pick up at local restaurants at the same rate, if not higher, than pre-COVID. Which we have done since the lockdown in March. I know it doesn't help the servers, but we hope it helps the business.

No, hard to eat food when your cheeks are frozen and your nose starts running while you wearing a heavy winter jacket. They should do takeaway and works for everyone.

I hope this winter is hard enough on Canadians that they grow some fucking balls and realize this federal government is fucking them over intentionally so they can finally start their green economy. They couldn't do it without this fake pandemic

Haven't been eating at a restaurant since 2015 and I gotta say home food taste even better when you have a full bank account from all those restaurant meals not paid, this pandemic showed us what's really important, restaurants are NOT.

I’m a former server and I refused to go sit on a patio to eat during the summer. Forget winter dining outside! We will continue to support our locals by ordering takeout. I would actually sit outside by a fire and drink whiskey and listen to music tho. That’s fun. Would pay $$

Nope

Certain restaurants only and only once in a while

Sure if it warm enough

🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑🐑

No I'll be eating inside thanks.

Don't know why everyone is so stressed!! People actually pay to go to Cebar by IceHotel in Stockholm, Sweden. Canada should start copying that too!! Make sure they have a mask!!!

Heavy rain, wind, cold, snow and ice. Sorry, not conducive for conversation. The sun is the big reason for sitting outside and that isn't too prevalent in the winter time.

Nope. Staying away from people

Nope. I hate patios at anytime.

It’s possible and would be fun too!

Nope Imma eat at my house.

With the relentless attacks on freedoms by power hungry leaders, including the UN, endorsed by media, most restaurants will die. The ones that will survive are the ones who have their buildings paid for. Anyone paying rent or mortgages on a restaurant, are unfortunately.....done.

Stop with the draconian bullshit. We can decide for ourselves where and when we'll eat. Leave the restaurants alone

No. I don't even go now. Sitting out in -40 degree weather sounds horrific. If I want ice in my food, I'll put it in the freezer.

NO

No way! How do you eat a nice meal when it's freezing outside? That is just preposterous!! Good way to definitely get sick and die and it won't be from covid!!

Government to loosen its grip

Hell no! In a Canadian winter? Lol

In a Canadian winter! No way will we sit outside next to snow banks in sub zero temperatures just to eat out at a restaurant. They will need to rely on take out and redeploy their staff to make that efficient, fast and easy for customers.

Eating at a restaurant as a form of charity are you kidding!

Government subsidies in form of negativ corp income taxes. Plus refund of gst collected in prior years. Problem is Trudeau gov got no reserves everything has to be borrowed and massiv tax incr and redistribution in the cards. Communist government in Canada

No way, my arthritis won’t allow that

Why Are the stopping indoor dining now?!?!

Yet another reason for me to eat yummy meals at home

I didn’t eat on patios in the summer...I sure as fuck am not going to eat on a patio in the winter.

Will I be eating outside in the dead of winter? Seriously?

Pre planned lockdown before thanksgiving coming. The reason/excuse? A bunch of cases unrelated as hospitalizations and mortality rates stay flat. fordnation COVID

Take-out support from me!

Umm just no i can't even stand to see people eat ice cream walking outside in the dead of winter during a polar vortex (you know who you are lol). And My TN prevents me from being able to go out side in the winter.

I won't. But you know what banks NEED to step up and reduce the monthly payments and interest stores and landlords have to pay to help keep these businesses open. Banks are the root of the problem. They need to be part of the solution.

Restaurants should be able to operate at full capacity, we can pack grocery stores so why can't we let restaurants return to normal.

Nope. Shelter in place

I will as much as we can, but we will be picking the locally owned ones, not global chains.

Nope. Sorry...

If I am insane then for sure......Is it an emergency 🚨?

The conspiracy theory that is covid19 is destroying small businesses. This is by design. The economic shit tsunami is coming at us like a freight train. Break us down, destroy our economy, lock us in our homes, don't visit your mom! Cant you people see what is happening?!?!?

No. Bars and restaurants should be 100% open.

Na I’ll be having big party’s indoors with my friends

No. If the pandemic taught me one thing it's how expensive eating out is since I learned to cook during the first lockdown haven't been to a fast food place or restaurant since

No

Will continue with take out 🤷‍♀️

The restaurant industry will die this winter due to the unnecessary restrictions. Tens of thousands will be unemployed as restaurants, suppliers, warehouse employees lose their jobs for nothing.

End the tyrannical rules and they might be able to survive. Wake up everyone, this will not end until we stand up for our rights.

No, its cold

I'll be eating inside just like I have been since restaurants re-opened. Enough with the constant fear mongering propaganda from the irresponsible media.

Nope

No.

Not way at all. To keep helo restaurants afloat? Oh when do you get sick 😷 of Covid 19 restaurants is going to save your life? Of course not at all?. Simple they want to keep restaurants afloat just delivery to customers door so save customer and restaurants staff too. Not me.

Open up and get lost with your propagarbage Would be the best suggestion.

Nope

I’m not freezing my azz off because of the flu is going around. If government is hell bent on destroying small businesses that’s on them.

i would but its just not worth it..since there has been a massive increase of covid cases and rising each day.. u gotta think of your health.. life etc.. but it doesnt mean u can support by ordering take out lol..thank god for skip the dishes lol

What will it take for restaurants to survive? A return to common sense on the part of the government and the vast majority of the population.

Sell kits. Start a YouTube how to channel. Publish a cookbook. Sell online pizza making courses. Launch a line of pizza cutters.

Go away global

I am still waiting for Canadians to finally realize that the powers are lying about the pandemic and that most, if not all the media stories on the negative aspects of covid are way overblown & our response disproportionate. It is time for us to clean political house and vote out

In Europe they eat outside if you dress probably for it sure it will be like going to a ski resort without the mountains 😂

Yeah, that's a hard no.

Have you ever sat outside in the winter under a patio heater without some kind of wind barrier, not to mention cost of heaters/propane/wiring electrical. Another nail in the coffin for hardworking restaurant owners.

Low do not need to eat outside in the cold.not nessesary as the corona isn't that serious.

Nope.

Not outside, but sure - I’ll go to a restaurant & eat inside.

Absolutely not. I will not be eating outside in the winter, and patio heaters won’t cut it. I dislike winter as it is!

Take out only...

Nope

I'll continue to use the take-out/delivery option.

nope havent been to a restaurant in 7 mths or so or even take out

'It's irreparable': Parents worry children face permanent health issues due to COVID-19 delaysParents and children’s health advocates worry that the thousands of delayed or cancelled pediatric procedures due to COVID-19 will have a permanent impact on Canadian children. These are the same parents screaming that we should lock everything down indefinitely and are convinced Armageddon is coming. That's because the delays will prove to be more damaging to children than the virus itself if it already hasn't already. Parents should really be worried about children's safety in Canada.
