Ottawa’s main estimates allocate a capital budget of $138 million for Canada’s national parks and historic sites, down from $448 million spent last year

The capital budget for Canada’s national parks and historic sites is being slashed by more than two-thirds this year even as more than 30 per cent of the agency’s assets remain in poor or very poor condition.

“The agency is developing a long-term plan for the management and sustainability of its infrastructure,” he said. In 2020, Parks Canada reported that 274 heritage assets, including 145 buildings, were in poor or very poor shape. Another 1,697 contemporary assets, including 198 bridges, 47 roads, 685 buildings and 149 roads, were in poor or very poor condition.

The fire damaged roads, bridges, picnic and parking areas, affected 80 per cent of the hiking trail network and destroyed campgrounds, stables, staff housing, water and electrical systems.

Toronto city council to consider lifting drinking ban in parks once againToronto city councillors will once again be asked to sign off on a pilot project permitting the consumption of some alcoholic beverages in city parks during a meeting this week. just make it permanent and we can all move on happier. While at it, change the stupid rules regarding alcohol sales on Sunday. We dont need someone else's religious hang-ups dictating when I can buy something. The government treating adults like adults.....yay what a breakthrough. Now as adults, we all better take our bottles and cans with us and not leave them in the grass. I kind of like the proposal and also little hesitant how they gonna implement and control the situation !!

Toronto to hire private security guards to patrol parks that were former encampment sitesSome Toronto parks could soon see private security guards on patrol around the clock as part of the city's effort to keep encampments from appearing. Novel idea..... instead of pumping money into security guards, how about put it into the mental health, homeless and addiction services. Imagine having the money to spend on private security but not for homeless shelters or affordable housing. How are people in power this dumb? Or they could give the homeless people houses.
