Citing the park’s increased popularity during the pandemic, the region’s growing population and the recent congestion experienced during the May long weekend, the park board notes the survey aims to collect ideas and suggestions on how to prioritize sustainable transportation options while also increasing access for various groups.
“Stanley Park is one of the most popular attractions of our city and we want to ensure that transit to and within the park meets the needs of both residents and visitors while building resiliency for future generations,” the park board noted in a statement.Advertisement 3Feedback collected through the survey will inform how the park board tackles the “different approaches to reducing private vehicle traffic within the park.
A bike lane along Stanley Park Drive is just one of several options being considered by the park board. Both long-term and short-term changes will be examined to address issues such as congestion at entry and exit points to the park. Besides collecting feedback from the public, the park board will also analyze travel patterns in the park and engage with various stakeholders. The current survey is the first full mobility study on Stanley Park conducted since 1996.Advertisement 4Last year, the city’s park board voted 5-2 to close off one lane of traffic on Stanley Park Drive, the main road that roughly borders the park, to allow cyclists to use the other lane, and changed other connecting roads to one-way traffic.
Wild goats. Let them run freely in all Vancouver parks
Get rid of bike lanes they don’t follow the rules of the road, they make up whatever they want
ParkBoard I 100% support bike lanes. I ❤️ you Vancouver for your incredible efforts to make our city more healthy, bike, scooter friendly, and enjoyable for walking =)
Get rid of the bike lanes.
This is framed in a way intended to draw a forgone conclusion. It doesn’t at all engage or admit that the park ALSO serves as an essential route into downtown which has been artificially constricted by no access onto Beach for vehicle traffic.
Changing the traffic plan in the park to made it harder for vehicles to move through the park effectively. This has created a negative cost-benefit analysis with the costs out weighing the benefits. Perhaps the city could focus it efforts to net positive projects instead.
Get the bike lanes off the road. Get them back on the sea wall
ParkBoard Self righteous bikers telling everyone they are the only ones allowed free travel. All else must use constrictive public transport . Way to engender support for your cause
Close it completely for public motor vehicles. Exemptions for vehicles with handicapped sticker. Implement some horse-drawn carriages (jobs!) and have some road trains going.
Less cars. More ostrich racing.
ParkBoard The survey is designed to elicit support for their plan to reduce access to the Park by anyone dependent on a private motor vehicle. There is no option allowing anyone to request it be returned to the efficient and fair pre-pandemic traffic design.
Really? There are only two members of the Park Board who respect all forms of transportation besides Cycling, John & Tricia. Vancouver's huge tourist revenue is affected by the intolerant attitude & the restaurants in the park.
