In the dream, it's a Saturday night and I am working with my colleague Bob Benson on the Sunday Telegram.
But in my dream, instead of the printer being where it was actually located — in our building across the parkway on Columbus Drive — the dream version is south of the mall, about 100 metres or more through a down-sloping parking lot that is filled with towering, rock-hard snowbanks. I am wearing a white blouse, black skirt, heels and black nylons. Perfect attire for scaling snowbanks, apparently, and scale them we would.
Though my nylons chafed and hitched on the rough compacted snow as I climbed, miraculously, they did not rip.Somehow, Bob and I make our way back, half-frozen by the effort. And yet here I am, more than 15 years after, still having anxiety dreams about getting it to print on time.
I’m no longer toiling 9 to 5, but am still working to regular deadlines, so perhaps such dreams are to be expected: waking up exhausted, mind racing.
