Students in Ottawa's public high schools have a new tool to report bullying and other threats in schools.
The board says the reporting tool will be monitored by a live operator between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on school days, and the team is "completely independent" of a school. "How school staff and/or the OCDSB responds to a concern or incident will depend on the situation," the OCDSB says on its website. "We appreciate the courage it may have taken to report a concern. School staff are trained in how to use information submitted in a way that respects anonymity and protects others."
And then what?!! Did they find a giant pool of psychologists that are offering services for free and have immediate availability? Get OHIP to cover these services first!!
Maybe having an effective way to dealt with bullying would be better!
This is going to be a total sh*t show, waste money and will solve nothing.
Window dressing. Now instead of teaching, they will spend their time chasing rumours. When will school boards make education a priority?
And then what.... There are massive wait times for resources. Psychologists aren't covered under OHIP and cost a minimum of $150/hr. More 'awareness' and still no free practitioners.
