Yasir Naqvi, the member of Parliament for Ottawa Centre, said on Twitter that he wants the street to stay closed and the area to be reimagined as a “pedestrian-first space.”Article content Other city councillors have echoing Naqvi’s calls. Jeff Leiper said he has been in support of closing the street from the beginning, and there are better uses for the space than to “ferry cars through the downtown core.”

Wellington Street closure hasn't caused 'total failure' for Ottawa's transportation network, report saysA new city of Ottawa report says the closure of Wellington Street in front of Parliament Hill has 'not caused a total failure of the transportation network' in the downtown core. '...in the area mainly due to the lower traffic and pedestrian volumes,' the report said. I beg to differ. Once eastbound traffic coming from the parkway or from Hull are forced to turn from Wellington onto Bank, there’s no legal way to turn left and continue east until Nepean Street. They’re making illegal left turns at Laurier, Slater and Queen. If it’s a security issue then why allow cyclists and I presume pedestrians are allowed as well.

Ottawa's notorious Rideau Street McDonald's closing permanentlyThe McDonald's restaurant on Rideau Street is set to close when its lease runs out in April, after nearly 40 years of operations in the downtown Ottawa tourist area. This is under the nose of parliament Hill. It is an urban core hollowing. One can only assume the vacancy till be temporary but the players who contributed to the inner city crime remain. Do You Remember That Time.... Someone brought a Baby Raccoon 🦝 to the McDonald's on Rideau Street during a massive brawl..... 0:36 to 0:39 🥺 lil Raccoon 🦝 Ottawa McDonalds Racoon Throwback Rideau Closing Who ever leases it has to be able to secure it and add better over night security. That’s not a Mcdo thing to do. But I think a restaurant can open up there and feed all the after hour drunks, but a large franchise isnt the best option these days.
