Ottawa believes U.S. intelligence on downed jetliner is credible: sources

PM Trudeau speaks amid reports Iran shot down Ukrainian planeTEHRAN, Iran -- Two U.S. officials said Thursday it was "highly likely" that an Iranian anti-aircraft missile downed a Ukrainian jetliner late Tuesday, killing all 176 people on board.

The U.S. assessment comes after a preliminary Iranian investigative report released Thursday said the pilots never made a radio call for help and claimed the aircraft was trying to turn back for the airport when the burning plane went down. Ukraine, meanwhile, said it considered a missile strike as one of several possible theories for the crash, despite Iran's denials.

The report also confirmed that both of the so-called "black boxes" that contain data and cockpit communications from the plane had been recovered, though they sustained damage and some parts of their memory was lost. It also said that investigators have initially ruled out laser or electromagnetic interference as causing the crash.

Ukrainian investigators that arrived in Iran earlier on Thursday currently await permission from Iranian authorities to examine the crash site and look for missile fragments, Danilov said. Danilov also said other possible causes under consideration included a drone or another flying object crashing into the plane, a terrorist attack or an engine malfunction causing an explosion. However, no terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack and the plane was only 3 1/2 years old.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he planned to call Iranian President Hassan Rouhani about the crash and the investigation.

I am sorry you can't put U.S and intelligence in the same sentence.

I don’t believe anything the US intelligence is saying. Trump lies so much & they make up so many lies. An expert on CNN last evening said that by looking at the many picturesof the one engine - it looked like the engine caught fire. He said there was no indication of a strike.

If it was shot down (which is not remotely proven) I'll guarantee it was done a false flag done by the U.S.. Why would Iran down a plane on their own soil after leaving their own capital?

1/ Does Iran have surface to air heat seeking missiles capability? If so what is the payload of surface to air heat seeking missiles? Can they obliterate an airliner or just hurt the engine ? Answer these questions and you can pretty much figure out if iran possibly did it ?

Trudeau, and his government were just waiting for someone else to suggest and say this, They have confidence and lack any leadership to come out and say it themselves, they will only agree with what others say.
