Ye Olde Mailbag: The Raptors at the NBA trade deadline (still) and how players develop

It may not be the biggest Ye Olde Mailbag of all time but there’s some good stuff in here and given how busy/hard this trip’s been, I’m okay with a slightly easier workload on it.Q: Hey Doug:Or does that role fall to the coaches to help them navigate challenging times? If the former, any sense of how much players take advantage of that support? Do most teams use these kinds of services?A: Yes, most teams have either a “consultant” available to players all the time or a psychologist on staff.

As the Raptors embark on this 12-day 7-gamer, do you have insight about the loss of Jama Mahlalela to the overall development process that the Raptors now use? Do you think technical and philosophical aspects of player and staff development and communication have changed since Jama went to the Warriors? A: Had a nice long chat with Jama after the game Friday night, was nice to catch up.

2) I see that Serge Ibaka is requesting a trade. Not sure how often you catch his"How Hungry Are You?" episodes but the one with Jrue Holiday caught my attention. On air, Giannis calls in and tells Serge Some have dismissed this as guys joking with each other, but I wonder if this hit too close to home. Your thoughts?

Thanks again for keeping us in the loop on what our guys are thinking about in between games, and your opinions on where we are and where we are headed.A: I don’t know what the final odds are going to be but if you believe in Toronto’s talent evaluators, they’ll get a player wherever they chose. The Dragic Difference? The Raptors won 48 games without him, they developed Scottie Barnes into something of a backup point guard and the rookie of the year and moved the franchise forward.

My take, is that this team lacks shooting and size that can make a difference. The more I watch this team the more I’m convinced that OG is not what we hoped he’d be and he does not appear to want to except his role as a 3&D monster and he is well below average every time he puts the ball on the floor- time to move him for shooting/Center and picks. Easier said then done but Masai/Bobby will figure out.

Raptors can't find defensive answers as Warriors put on a basketball clinicThe Toronto Raptors were in the game until the final minutes. But the Golden State Warriors eventually cracked them, fittingly with a flurry of assisted baskets from all corners of the floor before Steph Curry split the defence and kept it all the way to the rim to put an exclamation point on an impressive win. michaelgrange Raptors are 1 game out of a play in tournament and Right now would probably be place 6th in the NBA lottery. Raptors already knows there a flawed team. But management make us thing they don’t know what to do Really… secure a playoff spot or tank simple enough… michaelgrange It would be crazy not to be thinking about getting a top draft pick in a strong draft. How else do you improve the talent level, I am sure there are some fans that want to go hard for a play in spot. michaelgrange It am not surprised you didn't mention Siakam struggles & lack of leadership on the court. But I bet if it was Scottie we would be the topic of discussion for the media.
