I’d like to propose a simple idea to quickly and inexpensively solve Toronto’s public washroom shortage.
Our citywide public transit system is no better. The TTC carries 722,000 people every day. But across 75 subway stations there are only 11 washrooms. The act would open them up to whoever needs them. Overnight, every business that welcomes the public and their money would also accommodate the public and their needs.
You obviously do not own a business. Why would you want people shooting up in your business. Better they take a dump in your house
Every Home Depot toilet display should be made available to the public.
I work in a business with a public restroom. We often have to tape off stalls because there's shit all over the wall. Women hover and piss everywhere. Men do even worse. So you think all businesses should have to deal with this? And no, we don't have hired staff for cleaning.
They must make a Kim’s Convenience episode on this if they haven’t already.
Lol
This tweet/article wins the gold medal today for dumbest idea - let’s force private businesses into ceding their property for public use consequences be damned
Or how about I just come over to your place and take a dump in your sink? 🤔
Now there’s the stupidest thing you will read today. Ever hear of private property, 💩 for brains? What you’re suggesting is illegal and enough of a rights violation, Trudeau himself could have come up with it.
Businesses will have to spend tens of thousands to accommodate this request. Where do they get the money? Why are we hell bent on taxing small business into oblivion?
Detached from reality. The cost of properly equipping a washroom, from proper soap, paper towel, toilet paper, aircare and cleaning is not insignificant. Who funds/subsidizes this? The writer has clearly never been in a position to cover this very real expense.
Sorry Mr. G. Smith but businesses do not sign up for a free-for-all when it comes to the demographics that they would open their doors to, as that would be inviting intrusive and unsafe traffic into their premises. As some businesses are 'private' for a reason e.g., law firms
Good luck! If I own a private business & I let you in to check out what I'm selling, that does not mean I must let you use my private washroom.
We should adopt privately owned pay for use restrooms. Seems to work well in other countries.
Sorry Mr. G. Smith but businesses do not sign up for a free-for-all when it comes to the demographics that they would open their doors to, as that would be inviting irrelevant and unsafe traffic into their premises. As some businesses are 'private' for a reason e.g., law firms
This has to happen
And how can small private businesses sustain this? Absurd
No.
How does one sit on a urinal?
Buy something, then use it
Well this might not be a good idea...
What’s the point of this? Our sidewalks and parks are now public toilets.
I read they whole article, this is some straight insane communist gobbledegook. No locked doors, random people wandering in the back of a bodega. Do you hate Toronto, and wish it ruined?
Many will soon turn into personal apartments
Cool story, great priorities... next we can change your name to Gomorrah fools
How to become a communist.
Although it can be an important issue, having available washrooms for public use is not easily solvable by demanding that each business make one available. There are bylaws to consider too.
You guys have had some dumb ideas over the years but this has to be at or near the top
Is Raymond G 5 years old?
Build and Open up public washrooms. Businesses shouldn’t have to clean up after non customers and pay for the water and other supplies.
Who will pay for this? There should be public bathrooms, but why should private business bear that cost
The city should build and maintain year-round public washrooms. All transit stations, parks, community centres, libraries, government offices should have public washrooms. Open in winter and summers as advocated by Toronto Mayoral Candidate Penalosa_G
But then they would have to tackle homelessness!
Respectfully. Fuck all of that.
You do realize this will increase business costs right? Also there could be security or safety issues. Health issues may arise as well on terms of drug use etc. I understand the need but businesses should not be burdened by this. Government should provide public facilities.
Who is this 🤡?
This seems like it could be a potential problem for Bath Depot locations across the city.
Lets start with the TorontoStar building washrooms at one Yonge St… TorontoStar became a piece of 💩 gossip magazine🤔
Build your own washrooms
Unfortunately that wouldn't work. A restaurant had a homeless guy wash himself in their sink. A work crew once used a co's washroom to clean up before going home each day. Both of these incidents happened yrs ago but I can see it happening today.
I worked at a store that had a public restroom and an employee one. The public one was often very gross, I would never use it, as an employee. We cleaned it daily being a small store, but for some reason parents do not clean up after their kids in public rest rooms.
Toronto already pretty much is the toilet of Canada.
But a fee should be allowed to be requested.
The worst idea ever. Buy a coffee or get out. Why should businesses have to float the societal costs of 1 and 2
This is a joke.
🤡🤡🤡
I propose that only Raymond G Smith’s washroom be turned immediately into a public washroom.
If a guy walks into the ladies room where a female relative of mine is, he won't be walking out.
There’s a thousand things wrong with this
Gangs,of youths, anybody, can use a washroom , the homeless would they also shave, wash themselves, this is undoable, it won't work.
It seems, like a remedy, but think, about it, anybody, can go into a resturant, non patrons, gangs of youths, is their any limit, their has to be a limit, while it sound, philanthropic, in reality it would be a nightmare, for business, and undoable. !
Security risks in Banks etc
Why does a private business need to open its doors to an unknown to use the bathroom they pay/paid for? The wokeness is unreal!
Gross
And when someone uses it as their daily shower?
This act will probably close most business washrooms
That is ridiculous. The calls for police to get the addicted and homeless out of washrooms would shoot way up. Start with the city actually opening up some washrooms and try to manage those. Needles, smoking, drinking, drug use and garbage.
Great idea, force nice restaurants to let their rest rooms turn into homeless stench factories.
It’s not that simple. What if someone is in distress in the washroom and the business didn’t realize are they liable? Who’s insuring public safety from needles and other harmful things. Who’s paying to clean these washrooms.
Said by someone that doesn't have to clean them.....
Look at Mr privilege over here who has never had to see what crackheads can do to a public bathroom
Thank goodness I don’t own a business
The city should build public washrooms and maintenance be paid by the tax payers.
Remember, communists don't believe in property rights.
Because who doesn't need a safe injection site where they can leave the cleanup to the business owner. Our cities need to provide and maintain safe, clean public bathrooms. Why dump that responsibility on business owners? Stupid idea!!
Why?
Can we not protect women's spaces? This new bs-trans movement is ultimate misogyny. Real trans just blend in with the ladies and wish not be noticed as different. But you want to allow clowns with beards and swinging dicks to enter women's spaces so they can masturbate.
I propose that every set of public washrooms be obliged to offer single-sex washrooms for women and girls, from which trans-identifying males are excluded.
Single use washrooms would be on the rise.
This is a stupid Opinion
Sure, who cares about the rights of private businesses, who need to pay workers to clean, buy supplies, etc. While we're at it, why not make every washroom in every home publicly accessible? We could use the washrooms in Mr. Raymond G. Smith's home as a pilot...
Nice Bettca every business owner loves the thinking Lol
I have experienced a lot when during poor weather and I walked underground from Union to Bay Street. Washrooms were locked, however businesses such as coffee shops, Pharmacies and Food Courts were open. Made no sense. Businesses want you to be there but building management do not
Firmly believe that washroom access is a basic human right.
That does not seem fair to business’s to fund this public service. This means paying money by the business to fund this plan. More cleaning, more toilet paper, more maintenance, more wear and tear…..more non paying traffic inside the business….
Remember not so long ago when Starbucks tried to do this in the USA and ended up having to shut stores down because people took advantage? I 'member
And who cleans those washrooms ?
