Opinion: The Ford government is betting Ontarians won’t care about relocating seniors without their consent

Just imagine the howls that would emanate from the opposition benches if an Ontario

Alas, we all know that indignation is contingent on which team is bypassing conventional democratic processes and which is standing impotently on the sidelines. That’s why members of the PC caucus are apparently A-okay with rushing through legislation without the input of stakeholders and experts.which was passed Wednesday, allows hospitals to transfer patients to long-term care homes not of their choosing, without their consent, in order to free up acute-care hospital beds .

We have known for years that the bottleneck of ALC patients in hospital beds is a major contributor to overcrowding in Ontario hospitals. In 2011, the Toronto Stara front-page story about a woman named Ivy Chand who had been in a Brampton, Ont., hospital for six months waiting for placement in the facility of her choice.

That rag the Globe and Mail ran Ford down for not doing something to free up hospital beds, then attacks him when he does....a typical far left rag.

Test it in a Human Rights Tribunal and in the courts because people that are old or infirm are still human beings with their freedom and human rights in tact.

He is wrong about that. He doesn’t care for them or us for that matter. King Ford pushed this through all on his own (well he must have met with the residence owners). Follow the money.

Complacency is what got the OntarioPCParty fordnation elected. Ontarians can't be complacent when it comes to elections. I am fearful for the next Federal election. What is happening in Ontario is nothing compared to the disaster that is waiting in the wings for Canada.

We care more than the Ford government ever will

How about seniors stay with family and nurse comes to their home. Seniors feel safe in their own home. If do have to go seniors home let family find one for them. This Doug Ford like to show he's power and doesn't care about seniors only himself.

Seniors should be treated respectfully. Being in the hospital in today’s time, is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone. Food is garbage, very little care & attention (short staffed). It is hell.

suspect this policy is in place to deal with the bad apples who don't want grandma but want to keep collecting grandma's CPP and OAS which continue to be paid to grandma when in hospital; not in a nursing home.

Sue_Innovates When family that often assist with care, is too far away from facility, the senior will NOT get the appropriate care! Family ability to get to the LTC must be considered in where the person is relocated too!

This is an appalling and uncaring action by fordnation. He continues to marginalize the most vulnerable Canadians.

Then I guess ford won't mind if we move him and his ilk without their consent.

Taking warehousing of the elderly to a new level. If the officials pushing this 'solution' was in the position of being relocated, it wouldn't be happening.

An elderly person who is discharged from hospital but won’t go to an available home is taking space and resources from another person waiting for any number of treatments/procedures. 🤷🏻‍♀️

You know you always elect a bagel-shaped failson with wet toilet paper for a brain with the best intentions (making taxes illegal, deregulating plutonium) and then it turns out there's *consequences* (contracting an infection on the LTC transfer bus 'cuz ur manacles are 2 tight)

To be fair, Ontarians didn’t care about thousands of seniors dying filthy and alone, so this is probably a sound bet.
