And Matthews isn’t the only Leaf due for a bump in production. As Keefe was saying before Saturday’s win, the Leafs are hoping for more offence from their defensive corps.

Keefe pointed to Rasmus Sandin and Timothy Liljegren as the D-men who could be producing more. Sandin has yet to score a goal this season, chipping in five assists in 19 games played. Liljegren has two goals and zero assists in eight games. “We’re trying to shore some things up and defencemen will become a little more reserved in their play, and that can have an effect,” Keefe said.
