Justin Trudeau has decided — at least for now — to see Ontario’s moves toward for-profit medical care as “innovation” by Doug Ford’s government to resolve the health-care crisis gripping the country.
“I have been saying for years that delivery of health care is the business — is the responsibility — of the provinces,” Trudeau said when I asked why he’s been so quiet in the wake of Ontario’s recently announced measures — which some have said is a door opening to two-tier health care in Canada. The prime minister says he doesn’t mind if the health-care system looks different from province to province — and says, in fact, that this loose federation may be a bonus.
In a way, that’s not surprising coming from this federal Liberal government. Trudeau has been a big fan of the data revolution in politics and 21st-century campaigning, and the Liberal party has been highly immersed in fighting the data war in the political trenches. Where Conservatives once were the leaders in that data war, the Liberals are widely seen to have overtaken them in the past few elections, with sophisticated microtargeting techniques at the grassroots level.
“If people can actually see what’s happening across the country and see what the outcomes are, that’ll drive improvements,” he said. It was the pandemic, the prime minister said, that underlined the need for better data and measuring across the entire medicare system. In the early weeks after COVID-19 hit in March 2020, his government was struck by all the health-care information it didn’t have — and worse, couldn’t get.

I seem to remember Trudeau/Liberals fear-mongering in the last election as usual-outright lying saying CPC_HQ would privatize our health care system. Also remember when Liberals were going to tax health benefits! Hypocrites TrudeauMustGo LiberalsMustGo
Justin, has serious, word, problem if he calls , Ford, for profit- health care system innovative, it a copy of the American system, that's all, and will mean, wealth people, will get better health care, then people that aren't .
I have no respect for Delacourt.
I can’t read the article. Star wants me to pay.
That's not why he said. I read the article, you wrote it. I get that it's an opinion article.
JustinTrudeau Please address 🤬
People need to stop reacting to poorly written headlines that are created for clicks. DO BETTER torstar.
Hey. Do better. He didn't say that. He said... 'I’m not going to comment on what Doug’s trying to do on THIS one ... We’re supposed to say a certain amount of innovation should be good as long as they’re abiding by the Canada Health Act.”
This is why I can't vote Liberal anymore
Context of the article since it’s behind a paywall … that’s not what he said …
Clickbait headline.
Called it
I don’t think calling something “innovation” is an endorsement so much as it is an observation. He’s observing that Ford is moving ahead with his hair brained scheme. On the other hand, Trudeau should be careful about being too vague on what his vision for healthcare is.
I think I’ll wait (before I blow a gasket) for PMJT next interview or media release about Ford going CashForCare Was ‘innovations’ an interpretation or a quote? Was this about Ontario or all the provinces? Was it supporting privatizing? Shocked (but childishly hopeful)
Uh, I don't think so!!! How does 'I'm NOT going to comment on this one' become the flippin' HEADLINE, 'Justin Trudeau calls Doug Ford’s for-profit health plans ‘innovation’' Whoah! That's quite the spin you've got goin' there!! 😵💫
Disgusting.
Here, Trudeau says that he, Ford, and Moe are 'on the same page'. If that doesn't frighten you... privatization healthcare
That's because LiberalismIsAMentalDisease
People have to start reading the articles and not just the headlines. This is not what he said
How many people actually read the article? They are using a sentence fragment to spin the news.
Barf
No for profit healthcare is 'innovation'. None.
what a clown.
*criminal JustinTrudeau. fordnation needs to resign.
JFC
What a joke.
Really hope this isn’t true JustinTrudeau If this is the case there is no benefit of you being in power of PierrePoilievre
What the fuck
Actually he didn't say that at all. 'We’re supposed to say that some level of innovation should be good as long as they comply with Canadian Health Care Act.”
Well yeah trudeaus own riding has many private clinics. It’s not a new concept
WTF? Privatization is innovation?
OK, we got momentum! They both agreed on share 'Non profit' incremental Share 'honestly' and 'fair'!
Just both colossal wastes of skin
Hope this isn't true, JustinTrudeau Already hate your pandemic response of late - if you contribute to killing healthcare, we're done here
Yes Trudeau and Ford are on the same team. Canadians need to let them know that what they are doing to socialized medical care is unacceptable. Let’s fight for this sacred Canadian institution
SusanDelacourt Wait, what? One size fits all approach doesn't work when it comes to healthcare? Really, this from the no exemptions crowd?
SusanDelacourt Why don’t you do a story on the corruption regarding the consulting firm McKinley and the PM Blackface government? Scared it might expose your hero Blackface
SusanDelacourt PM Blackface has the intellectual depth of a thimble!!
The goal is doing both really well, Private & Public Healthcare. A WIN WIN for Ontario.
Neoliberalism with an apple-cheeked smile
Not good man!

SusanDelacourt ‘I’m not going to comment on what Doug’s trying to do on this one … We’re supposed to say a certain amount of innovation should be good as long as they’re abiding by the Canada Health Act.”’
