Opinion: Want to talk stag and doe? Let’s focus on the real ones at risk. If Premier Ford’s Highway 413 through the Greenbelt is built, it would impact a minimum of 29 species listed under the federal Species at Risk Act.

It could almost be a headline in “The Beaverton”: “Developers pay to wipe out stag and doe at stag and doe.”

If Ford’s Highway 413 through the Greenbelt is built, it would impact a minimum of 29 species listed under the federal Species at Risk Act. The blanding’s turtle, Jefferson salamander, red-headed woodpecker and Redside Dace are just a few of the animals already at risk of being wiped out that will fare even worse if this unnecessary freeway goes ahead.

If we’re going to stop Hwy 413 and save the Greenbelt, we’ll need an intervention from Ottawa. Last month, federal environment minister Steven Guilbeault said he would consider intervening to stop Ontario’s Greenbelt development plan, which “flies in the face of everything we’re trying to do in terms of being better prepared for the impacts of climate change.” He suggested one lever he could use is species-at-risk legislation. The minister is right to pursue this.

That corrupt thug 'governs' contrary to the public good. Ford's betrayed Ontarians by breaking his promise not to touch the Greenbelt, repealing protection of Duffins Rouge Agricultural Preserve, gutting wetlands protections, selling out to developers. Breach of trust. bribes

Canada is huge they can move.

DavidSuzukiFDN 🛑 ✋ it now! Fords friends won’t go broke. Ford will.

He does not care at all !

DavidSuzukiFDN And let's not forget all of the non-renewable cultural resources (archaeology) that will also be destroyed in the process. INDIGENOUS landback heritage

dmrider Ford is not a 'fact based' Premier. He's a corrupt autocrat.

hm we thought it was stag and dough ford ontario onpoli

Why doesn’t Ford appoint a long-standing conservative loyalist who received a judicial appointment from the Conservative Party and have him or her head up an enquiry to determine whether there was any wrongdoing on the part of Ford? That should settle it. Worked for Trudeau.

It’s the first and only all Black Canadian comedy tour and, for the last 11 years, has had Canadians giggling from Halifax to Ottawa. Black comedians have been around for decades. They only deserve to be supported if they are funny/entertaining, not because of their skin colour. Affirmative action comedy.
