In his last mandate, Ontario Premier Doug Ford wouldn’t touch LGBTQ2+ issues with a 10-foot pole — and on the one occasion he did, it was to politicize the inclusion of LGBTQ2+ education in the sex-ed curriculum.
As an LGBTQ2+ advocate, I am well aware that any mention of LGBTQ2+ issues will be met with hostility by some people. Our issues are politicized like few others, to the direct detriment of our communities. I’ve been in this fight for over a decade, and I’m concerned by what I would call the recent stagnation of progress on LGBTQ2+ issues and the impact that has had. It’s horrifying to imagine a government unwilling to promote and protect the human rights and well-being of vulnerable communities.
We need to recognize that COVID-19 has disproportionately impacted LGBTQ2+ communities and subsequently invest in LGBTQ2+ organizations, which in turn could support our social, economic and health recovery. There are phenomenal examples of government leadership on LGBTQ2+ issues across Canada, from governments across the ideological spectrum — there is no excuse for Ontario’s inaction.

How is that even true? An annual pride parade, flags erected everywhere and media airing gay and lesbian content! There is equality and maybe those bay sayers need to look at their skill sets before blaming the system!

This is the Ford way. Neglect, hide, fail, act at the last minute and do a half assed job. His legacy will be a combination of these, combined with a large death toll. No stopping him, no one matters.

If you live in poverty, experience more hate crimes, are homeless and have poor mental health, what is the upside to joining this group? Pick friends and organizations that help each other and others along the way. Don't hesitate to expand your horizons.
We have the most govt intervention ever in our lives. Program after program and massive spending and debt and taxes yet everything is getting worse. Who can justify more govt ? The answer is less govt - a lot less

I had a neighbour, a woman who was very, into LGBTQ scene, but who is a disgusting welfare cheater, who puts down elderly and infirm, and who lashes out and attacks ppl. Because of representatives like that, I'll stay away from LGTBQ for the rest of my life.

Appeasement and pandering has gone far enough
Toronto is literally one of the most queer friendly cities on the planet with a world renowned pride parade. I’m not denying there aren’t issues that they deal with but check the privilege perhaps.
Activists like this person are not elected representatives of the groups they claim to represent. They hold minority opinions within these groups. Nearly all LGBTQ people just want to be left alone to live their lives just like the rest of us.
