While the Progressive Conservatives and the Liberals have promised to slash the provincial gas tax, the New Democrats are taking a different approach. But will it work?
What the NDP is proposing — putting a price ceiling on gas — effectively already exists in the four Atlantic provinces. Yes you can regulate it, as Atlantic Can. regulates theirs & price changes are controlled by a Provincial Board...it prevents individual stations from gouging & price fixing, but if the $/barrel is overly inflated, it doesn't protect much, as the pump $ is set by that price.
