The 50 cent hike was first announced by Ontario’s Minister of Labour Monte McNaughton at an April news conference.

As of Oct. 1, the provincial minimum wage will increase by 50 cents to an hourly rate of $15.50.at an April news conference.

Students will also see a 50 cent increase in their wages come Oct. 1 -- from $14.10 to $14.60 an hour. Homeworkers, which the Ontario government defines as “employees who do paid work in their own homes,” will see a 55 cent increase, with their wages going up to $17.05 an hour.
