Already done here in Niagara. The NRP have been posting names for a few years now
The only way to deter drinking and driving is to make an example. Example: You kill someone you get life in prison, just as if you took a gun and shot someone, there is no reason to get behind the wheel drunk.
I don't get why sex offenders don't get the same treatment? When they deal with minors their names are hidden to protect the victims but that leaves them free to do it again and again.
Accused Doesn’t mean guilty What happened to innocent, until proven otherwise, in the eyes of the court Cops as judge, jury, executioner Only in the movies !! Not right, not sane, not justice !!
In a province where we can’t get the names of cops shooting each other cause that’s secret but every other civilian shooter gets names released / cops have a do as I say not as I do filter here. Very selective. Anyone remember the Peel drinking party in cop cars behind Div 11?😉
Its about time😌
“If you want a different answer you need to ask a different question.” I applaud them for trying a different approach.
How about shaming people who text while driving. I see it all the time on the QEW & other Hwys. They are weaving all over the road like they are drunk. OntarioPD
Peer pressure and Pride will be impacted be the release of names of impaired drivers. Anything that works!
Why stop there what about the rest name and sham every one break the law.
If convicted absolutely and long overdue. But only accused NO WAY.
People who killed kids and families due to impaired driving is out their with their families and what good this is going make? Most recently the guy from Mississauga his family was behind major development... it’s all public but still does it matter?
How about they start naming and shaming officers accused of police brutality and shooting civilians.
What about marijuana?
This is fine once the charges have been read out in open court, but only after that point (usually within a week or so, unless the driver is kept in custody overnight)
Outstanding! If you wish to behave like an idiot and endanger people’s lives everyone needs to be able to identify you for the menace you are. Step 2: double the amount of time these boneheads lose their driving privileges.
Not a privacy issue..maybe out them after being convicted..not simply alleged?
It’s about time
New laws should be, First offense, automatic 5 years suspension, $2,000 fine. Second offence a life ban and 5 years in jail.
Maybe they should wait until they are convicted before naming.
If a person makes the choice to drive impaired, they get what they deserve...named, shamed & license suspended, with points taken away, zero tolerance!!!
With a kangaroo court that acquits anyone on the slightest of technicalities and a pricey defence lawyer, this is a welcome move.
Accused? I sure hope u meant convicted!
About time!
Does this also include people who drive high? (it should)
Wonder how their bosses will like that. Having that kind of reputation.. And being known for it 👍 I think this is a great idea
Shame is the only way to stop them, then do it
In Canada, once you are charged with a crime you no longer have the right of anonymity unless you are a minor. Driving impaired is a crime.
About time!
don't drink and drive
Accused? Should change that to ‘convicted’. They are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
That’s bad all round. If a person is acquitted there is a great civil suit against the Police Service. Second, what if the impaired charge leads to a jury trial. That would be a great defence argument for a charter breach.Bad bad policy. Once convicted sure, but before is reckless
I would rather see those resources put into protecting women from trauma at the hands of men. How about shaming accused sexual predators instead? Time and money much better spent imo.
And the problem is? That’s right, there isn’t. If you drink and drive you forfeit your rights as you are a danger to other people. Name them. Shame them. Lose their jobs. Perfectly fine. Don’t like it, don’t drink and drive.
My guess, the only people that are for this idea, are those that love, and must find gossip to make their lives mean anything How exactly does this help anything?
alcoholawareness Whatever it takes to get deadly serious-Canada tops in drunk driving deaths
Great job.. Hopefully this initiative will reduce impaired driving.
Charged is not convicted. Innocent until proven guilty.
Same should go for texting and driving then. It happens way more often and on a daily basis.
Ridiculous.
About time.
Let’s just ban cars and trucks! It will save lives and the environment! All law-abiding drivers should pay for the acts of a few bad ones!!!!
What about parents who leave their babies in cars and they get stolen?
Good, but what is really needed is for tougher laws against impaired driving especially for those who kill people!!! My cousin Jen Dixon was killed by a drunk driver on Oct 26/18... I hope the woman who left 3 children motherless has the book thrown at her.
Awesome
This was so needed a long time ago.
The problem is, you are instantly guilty without trial. That's a slippery slope
So much for innocent until proven guilty
I like it. I can bet cbc will swirl their faces and block their names!!! 😀
Far more effective if the vehicle was destroyed upon conviction. Can't reoffend without a vehicle.
One wonders if this is a violation of an individuals privacy. Regardsless if the crime, charter of rights and freedoms.
Impaired drivers should have their license suspended or taken away. Not sure public shaming is the right thing to do. OttawaPolice RCMPONT fordnation
Due process can get fucked! OPP_News
As they should.
