The government wants to hike class sizes and cut grants for education.

Ontario PC Education Minister Lisa Thompson makes a statement at the Ontario Science Centre in Toronto on March 15, 2018.

TORONTO — Union leaders and Opposition MPPs want to know how the Ontario government plans to cut grants for education and increase class sizes without costing any workers their jobs. "Not one teacher, not one, will lose their jobs because of our class size strategy. None," Minister of Education Lisa Thompson told reporters at an announcement Friday.

The minister said the government will increase the size of average classes, from 23 to 24 students from Grade 4 to Grade 8 and from 22 to 28 for high school. High schoolers will have to take at least four of their 30 credits online instead of in a classroom with a teacher. The government will also cancel a number of grants for school boards or let them expire. The cost adjustment allocation, or funding for teachers' sick leave and maternity benefits that totaled, is discontinued. The local priorities fund, a $235-million pot of money for needs like special education and adult education, is set to expire on Aug. 31 and may not be renewed.

Well see if Ford caves to teachers union like the liberals did

Students forced to take online credits?... class size increase?... Looks like a hiring freeze is coming to Ontario school boards.

People forget this is average class size. So when we take into consideration the special Ed classes which are considerably smaller that makes the other classes much larger than the number quoted. My kids were always in classes of about 30 kids when the average was 24.

It’s no different than nursing. For every additional patient on a nurse assignment, research proves poorer health outcomes. Pretty sure the same is true for educational outcomes in children. Think long and hard before increasing class sizes!

This will be headed to the courts. Crusty Clarkes years long war on public education in BC eventually went to the SCOC where she lost. Ontario need to look at what Crusty's war did to BC's students.

The issue is that countries with far higher class levels are destroying our children in sciences, maths, etc. But progressives are wired to choose by looks, not how it works.

The age old conservative tactic...keep the population stupid so you can continue to trick them! Fortunately teachers will fight for quality education. weneedtostaygloballycompetitive qualityeducationcosts

Chris Selley: Ontario PCs will regret eliminating child advocateThis is one of the Doug Ford government’s least explicable and very worst decisions Oh yeah, lets keep on spending, inventing new positions. Kids have plenty of advocates.....how about their parents, if they can be dragged away from their entertainments instead of raising them proper? That would require integrity and shame. Sadly I haven't seen any in the Ontario PCs. Child advocate could have stayed if fordnation had enough courage to get rid of CFS instead
