I wonder if there were legal/ treaty reasons for not closing the border to Americans... in addition to a vindictive Trump in office. We depend of those supply lines being open.
Enough politics. Close the boarders. To everyone. The sooner we deal with this properly, the sooner we can get back to everything else.
I would guess that these are almost entirely Canadian travellers/Snowbirds. So a border ban could not stop them from entering.

A ban is probably on the way, I think this partial ban gets everyone thinking “what’s the next step?”. If the US doesn’t move quickly, we should restrict everything but commercial vehicles.
And yet USA/Canada border remains in a free for all. Restrict it to commerce only.
That is reason enough to shut down the border.
