An Ontario family that was charged $3,458 to stay in a quarantine hotel in Toronto after returning to Canada from a funeral are vowing to fight the bill they call 'price gouging at its best.'

TORONTO -- An Ontario family that was charged $3,458 to stay in a quarantine hotel in Toronto after returning to Canada from a funeral are vowing to fight the bill they call "price gouging at its best.", along with her brother and daughter, on Feb. 27 after spending about a week in Portugal to attend her father's funeral.

She said when they called, they were told the price would be $369 per night and booked a room with two queen beds. About 15 hours later the three family members received negative COVID-19 test results, which allowed them to leave the hotel and complete their quarantine at home. At which point Teixeira said the hotel refused to refund them for the remaining two nights.

Speaking to CTV News Toronto on Wednesday, Teixeira said they are doing everything they can to fight the charges, including filing a dispute with their credit card company.

Its sad to hear how Government officials handle that. This is why the covid cases grows in Ontario!

This is outrageous, Justin Trudeau is robbing people, everything is arranged between Trudeau, Air Canada and hotels to take money from passengers!

It Will cost them more than that to fight and lose. This is a Public Health Emergency and no exemptions should apply. Sorry for your loss and take a chill pill and move on.

This is NOT about QUARANTINE but PRICE GOUGING. They tested neg after 15hrs and could leave, 99% chance no one checks to actually see where they spend the next 13 days. Even if they had to pay for all 3 nights, same day online booking$550 total, + food and security $1k max

Invictus979 I flew into Toronto on Dec 16 and spent 14 days holed up in a hotel as per rules. I never even received 1 phone call to make sure I was following the rules. Its a complete joke

She’s so hot

FacesofAdvocacy This is a power abuse from the government and hotel side by excellence and an anti-trust issue as well, as hotels are no longer competing (consumers right protection). I advise all travelers to dispute the charges with their credit cards providers + legal complaint filings.

Should of stayed home. Suck it up $250 a night in TO is normal.

There is absolutely no reason that they should have fight government sponsored price gouging. Crowne Plaza clearly overstepped business decency. BoycottCrownePlaza

That’s an understatement

I totally agree wish you all the luck

Total robbery
