Ontario asks retired teachers to work more. Teachers' federation says this has to stop

Ontario's teachers have rebuffed a request from the Ministry of Education to let retired teachers work longer, saying the government needs to come up with a real solution to staff shortages.

"Ontario has tens of thousands of qualified individuals who are leaving the profession," the unions representing public elementary, secondary and English Catholic teachers wrote. "The Ontario Teachers' Federation will need to explain why it's not a shared priority for them to put in place both short and long-term measures that will keep kids learning in class in front of a qualified teacher."
