On a design pilgrimage to celebrate the modernist movement’s 100th anniversary, Margo Pfeiff wonders at its lasting appeal

Today, the trailblazing school of modernist art, design and architecture's legacy can be found everywhere from skyscrapers to the layout of your iPhone screen.Atop a contemporary carpet of multicoloured squares and triangles sat chic and angular yellow-upholstered armchairs and a sleek Scandinavian-style desk. The only thing that seemed shockingly out of place was a heavy black vintage telephone, like something in a museum.

The Bauhaus Centenary is being celebrated with great fanfare and a roll call of events in the three German cities that were the school’s home between 1919 and 1933: Weimar, Dessau and Berlin. Though it only operated for 14 years, the movement spawned modernism and its concepts and philosophy spread around the globe.

Two houses in the country are worth one in the city for this B.C. coupleCan they afford to swap their rental houses for a home of their own in Vancouver? Buy property in Ontario, enough to make rental income to support a decent rental from an Asian owner in BC. Just hope your rent isn’t going to fund some criminal money laundering scheme (which it probably is). Why is a family with a monthly income of over 11,000 receiving a child tax benefit of 445.00 a month? They own 2 homes and rent one on top of it. Im not ok with essentially providing welfare for households with over 100k annual income and 2 properties.
