The Oilers understand that they need to dig in and want this thing more than they have showed because if they can’t, well, then it will be fair to ask if the roster is competent enough to execute an NHL game plan at the NHL level. (SportsnetSpec)

Spec Do they really understand though? They've been saying it for a decade

Spec Spec Spec when are you going to put the blame on the ownership group and upper management where it belongs? Everyone knows this except the Edmonton media and u are their ring leader. Tor used to have this problem until guys like mirtle continually called them out on it

Spec OilersNation has to start being the go to for Oiler fans. Sportsnet and some of the media are constantly dumping on every move these players make. There's no media support. Bring your heat to the internal boys club and out your childhood idols to get the hell out of Edm

Spec Maybe just maybe the reason for this decade+ of darkness is the fact that Katz employs a bunch of exOiler morons who don't know anything about winning I'm today's NHL.

Spec It can execute now dahhhh

Spec It's like trying to pound a square peg into a round hole. You can't keep pounding expecting it will work eventually. The roster is poorly constructed. It's clear that management wasn't competent enough. This isn't on the players no matter how much you want it to be.

Spec Spec do you think the media missed the context of Hitch's 'want it more' statement or was he perhaps walking it back to soften its blow?

Spec If the players think their effort is acceptable then we have way bigger problems then I thought. If they say they want it then prove it starting with winning some puck battles, win some some foot races to loose pucks, forecheck hard, skate hard. Bunch of lazy asses.

Spec Still a few more people at this table that need to go.

Spec the oilers fired their GM because the players aren’t trying hard enough

Spec I think the Oilers hole is long dug.

Spec STARTING to ask if the roster is good enough

Spec Spec, the guys have to play to their individual strengths....if you bang bodies then bang bodies....if you defend then defend....if you shoot then shoot....the guys try to be what they are not,......NO CHANCE that works ever!

Spec Send all these guys down and bring the Condors up. Switch these teams around!

Spec Why were they “competent enough” to go to game 7 of the 2nd round 2 seasons ago...the roster isn’t that drastically different..?

Spec Really, because that's not at all what the players say here.
