Durham Region’s health department is out with a reminder that you can get free eye exams for your children.

“Yearly eye examinations are free for children up to 19-years-old with a valid Ontario Health Insurance Plan card,” explained Public Health Nurse Yemisi Aladesua. “We encourage all parents of school-aged children to book their child’s eye exam as soon as possible.” According to the department, one in four school-aged children could have issues with their eyesight, which can make it harder to learn in school.

The Ontario Association of Optometrists recommends having your child’s eyesight tested at six-months-old. The next test should be when they are two to five-years-old. After that, it should happen every year.Ctrl+Enter
