The monitor, chief restructuring officer David Boyd and the sales and investment process solicitation agent will determine which companies and individuals are invited to make binding offers to buy the Halifax Herald Ltd. and SaltWire. Those bids will be due by May 24. The Halifax Herald Ltd. owns The Chronicle Herald and SaltWire owns daily papers The Telegram , The Guardian and The Cape Breton Post , as well as weekly papers throughout Atlantic Canada and a variety of digital publications.
The companies are owned by Sarah Dennis and Mark Lever. The couple have stated their intention to seek to buy back at least the media arm of their companies through the established sales process. Lever has stepped aside as president of the companies but has remained as their executive chairman through the creditor protection proceedings.
