The number of people working in Nova Scotia is rebounding from the pandemic, with the figure in May higher than before the arrival of COVID-19.

The provincial Finance Department reported that 438,744 people were employed in Nova Scotia in May, compared with 426,381 employed in January 2020. Employment numbers had been trending upward since 2017, peaking around January 2020, but declined sharply between February and May 2020 due to restrictions and closures.

There was a partial rebound from June 2020 to April 2021 due to eased restrictions, but the number of people working slipped again when Nova Scotia reinstated restrictions at the end of April 2021. Numbers have been trending upward since then, with more than 30,000 more people having jobs in May 2022 than in May 2021, when 407,879 people were working
