Newfoundland and Labrador saw an increase in crime from 2020 to 2021, including a sharp increase in violent crime, according toFor 2021, the index value for violent crime rose a staggering 19 per cent, while rates of non-violent crime also increased by just under four per cent.The youth crime severity index dropped by nearly 14 per cent from 2020 to 2021. When broken down further, youth violent crime dropped by over 19 per cent, and non-violent crime dropped by over seven per cent.
The province as a whole saw an increase of over 9 percent to its index, the biggest increase out of any jurisdiction in Canada. That said, while the province’s index value is higher than the national average, it is lower than values seen in the western part of the country.

No. With no access to mental health care I’m sure that it is related. Not saying that everyone who need mental health care will be involved in crime though.

It's gonna get worse
What irritates me is the fact that it’s so easy for criminals charged with serious weapons offences can get bail so easy. And people who are convicted only have to serve very short prison terms.
Thats what happens when people are forced out of their home into a system with no support and a cuty infrastructure that is actively hostile towards them. No wonder.
It is becoming more evident as time unfolds that the lockdowns harmed out society far more than it helped.
When most of those caught have “Breach of court orders” tacked on every time they’re caught, it’s a big hint.
This is what happens when people struggle and have lost all sense of morality. Wait until we are forced into Great Depression 2023. Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times. Guess where we are.
You don’t say that there was rise in crime between 2020 and 2021… almost like the city was locked down or something. How does the 2021 crime rate compare to pre-pandemic levels?

Not surprised. Gov policies over the last 2 years have led to people being financially insecure, and when people get desperate, crime increases.
I am really surprise how St-John’s have issues with brake in! From businesses to houses! Some people are desperate for money! St-John’s is such a beautiful town it’s too bad we are loosing our tranquility of life. Very sad…..🤔

We need mental health support and housing support. We are entering a global K curve correction basically on the precipice of hard recession with the ultra rich cleaning house and the rest of us falling hard. Most a over leveraged, barely able to make ends meet.
