A human rights organization argues the brands profited from the \u0027direct or indirect\u0027 forced labour of Uyghurs in Xinjiang province

But this is not the first time Nike or Patagonia have been challenged on their operations in Xinjiang, China, the region where the alleged forced labour of Uyghurs take place.Article content

In an earlier statement, NIke said it was committed to ethical and responsible manufacturing and upholding international labor standards. “We are concerned about reports of forced labor in, and connected to, theNike does not source products from the XUAR and we have confirmed with our contract suppliers that they are not using textiles or spun yarn from the region.”

Patagonia has also vigorously defended its practices in China. In a statement from 2020, the outdoor apparel company Patagonia said it was “horrified” by the reports of human rights violations in China, and was “mapping the source of our products to the farm level, and we are constantly working to ensure that all of our products are built without human rights abuses and with the smallest environmental footprint possible.

“We don’t source any finished goods in Xinjiang, and we are committed to only sourcing from farms and mills where we can confirm there are no human rights abuses,” the statement said. In November, Canadian senator Leo Housakos introduced a bill to ban outright all imports from Xinjiang. It said Canada is “subsidizing” the cultural genocide of the Uyghur people by allowing the import of goods made with slave labour.

Wow! Winnipeg police enable one of their own. I guess money and influence matter in Manitoba ! That’s messed, and likely due to his local celebrity status as a business person. Officials would rather uphold his reputation as a “job creator” instead of a serial rapist, which he is. SURPRISE I never have trusted Winnipeg police with all the Indigenous women who have disappeared they have always been my number one suspects 😢😢😢😢
