Greater Sudbury’s record climbs to an impressive 11-1-0-0

Greater Sudbury Cubs’ star forward Nolan Newton helped lead the team to yet another win on Oct. 12 at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.

The Cubs scored first in this one, and on the power play. Team Captain Oliver Smith sent a pass to the net that Newton redirected past Espanola goalie Jake Marois. The Cubs made it a 3-0 first period shortly after. Newton scored his second of the night and his 14th of the season. Smith powered his way along the left side boards that resulted in a Cubs’ two-on-one. A sweet cross-ice pass to Newton, promptly buried it the bottom right corner, put more cushion on the Cubs’ lead.

“The Paper Kings came back to dash the shutout bid of Cubs’ goalkeeper Noah Metivier at 9:17, while on the man advantage, that saw Spencer Horgan wait, then pump a shot from the point, that was eventually stuffed in by Graydon Guthrie parked in front,” the team said in the release.
