The M.A.D.D. Canada Nick Coates impaired driving team award medals. The program recognizes dedicated officers who have removed at least eight impaired drivers from the provincial roadways. JOHN'S, N.L. — Several members of the N.L. RCMP and Royal Newfoundland Constabulary have been recognized by M.A.D.D.

Members will receive a silver distinction for removing eight impaired drivers, or a gold distinction for removing 12 or more impaired drivers. Silver recipients from the RNC include Const. Michael Carter of St. John's, Const. Shane McClafferty and Const. Terence Reid, both of Mount Pearl. Silver distinctions in the RCMP went to Const. Cassandra Barker of Clarenville, Const. Jules Gittens of Stephenville and Const. MacKenzie McCoy of Harbour Grace.The honour was named after Nicholas Coates, who was killed by an alcohol-impaired driver in 2013 and aims to honour all survivors and victims of impaired driving.
