New Brunswick man charged with assault in Charlottetown after allegedly pulling knife on workers

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A 39-year-old New Brunswick man has been arrested and charged after workers at a Charlottetown business were threatened at knifepoint early Saturday morning.

Members of the Charlottetown Police Services were called to a business on University Avenue shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Oct. 14 following reports from staff who said an unknown man tried to follow them into the building. When staff told the man he was not allowed to enter and pulled the door closed, he allegedly became aggressive and pulled out a knife to threaten the workers before fleeing the area.

Police were able to identify the suspect through video surveillance and arrested him on Queen Street later that afternoon. He’s been charged with assault with a weapon, breach of a release order and breach of probation. He was kept in police custody and is scheduled to appear in provincial court today.
