The War We Won Apart will be available on May 28.Journalist and CBC Radio's When veteran journalist and broadcaster Nahlah Ayed was working for CBC London, she was tasked with coming up with a story to mark the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

Days after they got married, the pair was separated, each embarking on dangerous missions as elite agents, then reuniting post-war, immigrating to Quebec and raising six children. "I'm very excited for people to know more about this, the story of Sonia, because not only was she a participant in the war, but she also spent a lifetime raising another generation of Canadians," said Ayed. "She was a war bride and combatant and civilian and immigrant all rolled into one."The 20-year-old parachuted into France nine days before the Allied advance and helped sabotage German war efforts.
