A University of New Brunswick student said he couldn't cross the stage at his graduation due to a lack of accessible access to the stage.

A University of New Brunswick graduate said a lack of accessible facilities at his graduation ceremony prevented him from crossing the stage. Law graduate Blair Curtis, who uses a wheelchair, said he wasn't able to independently cross the stage on graduation day after attempts to coordinate with the university months in advance. Anna Mandin has more.“When I started law school, I said it myself, ‘When I cross the stage, I know I’ve made it.

He didn’t want to miss watching his friends cross the stage and wanted to be visible, so he did not accept the first option. “So being able to maintain my independence for as long as possible is really important for me,” he said.“When Blair crossed on the carpet in front of the stage, those of us sitting really couldn’t see him cross, we had to watch on the monitors,” Mindy Parsons, his friend and another graduate, said.“Several accommodation options were presented and discussed.
