Oak Bay police officers on regular patrol about 1 a.m. last week ended up nabbing a suspect after hearing noise from the area of the municipal yard.

The sound of items being rummaged through led them to a 33-year-old man alleged to have broken into a secure recycling section of the site. They discovered that about $1,000 in damage had been done to the facility.

The suspect was arrested for breaking-and-entering and theft. He was released and is due to appear in court in January.
