Former prime minister says Canada should bar Huawei Technologies’s gear from country's next-generation 5G mobile networks if it would jeopardize intelligence sharing with Canada’s Five Eyes alliance

Brian Mulroney, seen here on June 4, 2019, said the Prime Minister should strike a blue-ribbon panel of experts to reshape Canada’s policy toward China.Brian Mulroney is calling for “an immediate and urgent rethink” of Canada-China relations and is praising Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for rejecting domestic demands to free senior Huawei executive Meng Wanzhou in exchange for the release of two imprisoned Canadians.

“You can see it everywhere from the South China Sea to our two citizens who were bundled off to jail for no reason at all except to protest an extradition decision in Vancouver,” Mr. Mulroney said. “There has to be an immediate and urgent rethink of our entire relationship.” “We’re a civilized important nation in the world. We have an extradition treaty with the United States of America. We were asked to honour it, and we did, and that’s what we should have done,” Mr. Mulroney said. “It also means the Americans and others should be helping us, working with us to get our citizens back.”

Mr. Mulroney also said Mr. Trudeau should not risk losing access to high-grade intelligence shared by Canada’s allies in the Five Eyes alliance that includes the United States, Australia, Britain and New Zealand.

Mulroney is absolute idiot suggesting to attack china on any way. canadian's spy will get life time jail or worse.

Canada's most disliked PM pre-Harper giving advice is just not useful. Even if he's right, let's keep former PMs in the past and call on them only when needed. This is the fool who ushered in the era of Free Trade and globalism for Canada after all.

That is true. People don’t want to call a cat a cat and a dog a dog. Chine is actually an enemy of Canada and you have to treat as, so not 5G (will you give the key of your home to a thief?) less stade with looking for others markets, etc. I Like conservative because they know it

He can just crawl back under his rock... same with Harper!

RobertFife

That's absolutely true. But it should have been done 5 years back. Late as always

RobertFife It’s refreshing to see not every former politician can be bought by the CPC. cdnpoli

RobertFife Why is the former PM making so many pronouncements lately? He’s also mused about guaranteed income, expanding immigration, removal of internal trade barriers, etc. These issues have been on the burner for many years.

Yes, I agree. Its time somebody other than the States stand up to them.

Outdate old man. Your Irish Eyes Aren'r Smiling on Canada anymore. You should actively promote the destruction of Canada's true virus JustinTrudeau. HE. is the pariah that must be destroyed.

RobertFife How ‘bout you and Ben just stay retired and keep liberal thoughts to yourself?

Why is this asshat relevant? He ruined Canada by introducing the GST and NAFTA. He stole all the good manufacturing jobs and shipped them overseas for cheap compliant labour.

Mulroney agrees with Radical Ron on dumping China at any cost. But I strongly disagree with Mulroney's suggesting that Canada should double mass immigration. Immigration needs to be reduced by 90%.

RobertFife I knew it. He leaves etalk and starts getting involved with politics.

RobertFife Brian is on the take again.

Has anyone had not enough of this one? Just move on, you and your conservatives have done more then enough damage to this country, and in your can even beyond. Didn't you do some pretend-biz in China for that German guy, for cash.

why do you keep promoting criminals. liar and thief

Some of us need trade with China because bags of cash don't magically appear for information every other year

skip the expensive blue ribbon panel, kick their products, companies and nationals out of the country--it will get their attention when they can't use us to spy on our allies any more

globepolitics China the second biggest economy can afford to do without 35 million Canadians. Canada however cannot afford to deprive Canadian businesses to engage with a big chunk of world population.

Maybe if we gave them cash kickbacks or bribes in paper bags in a dark hotel room? Would that help

Nothing sadder than a failed has been laurentian elite politician desperately trying to regain some semblance of relevancy

Maybe he can talK to Harper about FIPA, kinda hard to do a rethink with your arms tied, he must be venting since Ben and company moved back in

Even if I do not really like Mulroney, his stance against China is great.

Agree 👏🏼👏🏼

Good

Well Mulroney got the country into globalization so maybe he knows a thing or two about how to get us out.

Canadians urge a rethink of advice from politicians who accept bags of cash on hotel rooms. integritywatch
