On the outside of the playoff picture looking in, the CanadiensMTL added a veteran defenceman to signify they're still pushing for the post-season. (via EricEngels)

In Scandella, a 29-year-old Montrealer who has three goals and nine points through 31 games this season, the Canadiens get an upgrade on the left side of their defence; a 6-foot-3, 212-pounder who skates well, moves the puck decently, plays physical and has 549 games of NHL experience.

Brett Kulak, who occupied that spot next to Fleury on Thursday against the Lightning, has been inconsistent at best after an impressive first season with Montreal in 2018-19. And Reilly, who originally came to the Canadiens from the Wild at the 2018 trade deadline in exchange for a 2019 fifth-rounder, dressed for just 14 games this season and was rendered a healthy scratch for the other 26 games. On the long end, in clearing out the 26-year-old Reilly’s $1.

Quick take on Mike Reilly; great guy, but issues in his own end made it tough to crack the weaker side of MTL’s D. Unfortunately, didn’t produce enough to mitigate those defensive issues. Ottawa a good landing spot for him. There should be room there for him to go out and play. But it’s the short-term windfall of the Scandella move that speaks volumes about how Bergevin and the Canadiens see their current situation.

CanadiensMTL EricEngels When they gonna figure out the goalie is the problem

CanadiensMTL EricEngels Winning games would do better to signify that they are pushing for the playoffs.

CanadiensMTL EricEngels But... but... why?

EricEngels CanadiensMTL 3rd pairing? Interesting. I would have thought he would get a shot on left of Weber or Petry in Top 4.

EricEngels CanadiensMTL Even though the right path is rebuilding. They choose to fake contend and fake rebuild. Just create the perception you're trying to do two things meanwhile accomplish neither. Amazing job by MB to dupe a fanbase and an owner.

CanadiensMTL EricEngels A team that wants to make playoffs and still has the cap space they do is fake news.

Snakebite350 CanadiensMTL EricEngels At worst they can flip him at the deadline if they fall further out.

CanadiensMTL EricEngels Making moves now to try and secure a playoff spot would be terribly foolish. The Scandella move makes sense because if he comes in and plays well there is a chance he can be flipped at the deadline for a better draft pick than what they gave up to acquire him

CanadiensMTL EricEngels Hes terrible
