More than 400 health-sector workers are being laid off in Ontario as the Progressive Conservative government moves to merge 20 agencies into one.

A spokesman for Health Minister Christine Elliott says 416 people in "back-office positions" will lose their jobs and another 409 vacant positions will be eliminated.

The province is consolidating 14 local health integration networks, Cancer Care Ontario, eHealth Ontario and other agencies into a new organization called Ontario Health. The government projects the change will save $350 million a year by 2021-22, and a senior official said recently that $250 million will be saved this year.

Elliott says each agency having its own administrative and back-office support needlessly duplicates operations and takes money from patient care. During last year's election, Premier Doug Ford repeatedly promised that not a single person would lose their job under his government.

This may be far-fetched and surprising coming from this side of the country but, they can all move to Quebec as we have a sickening deficit and shortage of nurses, auxiliary workers and social wokers within our Health Care system !

A majority of our Tax dollars go to London. Our currency is loaned to us on interest, our taxes pay that interest. The banks own us, the 2 party system is dead, but they want us all fighting over tax dollars while the country's looted.

What is the government using OUR tax money on? If not health, education and infrastructure. If this is how the PC ticket looks across the country I'll pass.

People lose jobs every day in various sectors. I don't know if these are necessary or not, but they might be.

Thanks to Doug Fraud voters!!

fordnation Shell Game: “not a single person will lose their job” becomes ‘No front-line person will lose a job' The fact is: SOMEONE is losing a job, but Ford's playing the game

Good. Far too many 'administrative health-sector workers' in Ontario than are necessary. Biggest human resource growth sector in health care. Focu on health care providers. Not PR and fund raiser people, risk managers, data analysts and CEO's that make $400 thousand a year.

Why doesn't Travisdhanraj tweet this fact instead of trying to mislead and create a false narrative? Answer- He has to keep the narrative as laid out from JerryPDias

Good start, schools, colleges and universities next.

The public service has far too many managers and not enough frontline workers, Ford is doing the right thing

Cutting the fat ! FordNation 👍🏻

“Not a single person will lose their job under my administration” -Doug the liar Ford. fordnation shadyusedcarsalesman corrupt

Don’t like to see ppl lose jobs but the Ontario heath system is heavy with administrative jobs. The system needs more money on the front lines.

beauty.

This is 'Accounting 101' - first you cut and trim fat ... then you rehire competent people. canpoli Thank you, FordNation !!

'Back office positions' not doctors or nurses.

Now to be fair CTV why don't you list all the cuts to healthcare under the Liberals.

Sound move and hopefully those savings will be ploughed into front line services in health care! We need more nurses, docs etc!

Conservatives are just ugly! Remember that look. They don't care about anyone other than their money.

Good ! Busting the bloat will refocus the remaining expenditures to direct patient health, while whittling away at the enormous structural deficit. Keep cutting. ontarioisproud

Hey fordnation no one will lose job under your watch as result of your policies

good maybe they can do some real work

I tell you Doug Ford is so much like Donald Trump. He conned people. He's just trying to make a name for himself he could care less about the people of Ontario

Clearing out the offices full of pencil pushers and bureaucrats. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

No docter, nurse or medical tech eliminated...just middle management. Sounds good to me

Suck it up Ontarians. The rest of Canada doesn't have mental health care either.
